The Barrymores

The Barrymores are a famous theatrical American dynasty that provided America with important actors and actresses for over 175 years. It began in 1827 when Loiusa Lane made her debut at age seven. She married an Irish comedian named John Drew and their children were John Jr, Sidney and Georgiana. They were all comic actors in theater. Georgianna married Maurice Blyth, who later adopted the stage name of Barrymore. They had 3 children; Lionel, Ethel and John that would attain noted success on stage and in film. Lionel would make over 100 major films, winning the Academy Award in 1931 for "A Free Soul." Ethel made 32 films winning the Academy Award in 1944 for "None But The Lonely Heart." John made 56 films and had much success. John married Delores Costello, another famous actress with Irish roots, and their son John Barrymore III had a great but short career in film in theatre. His daughter is Drew Barrymore, a contemporary actress who is enjoying success and popularity.
