Recording Artist
Born Michael Dowd for two decades his name
was synonymous with television entertainment in America.
The Mike Douglas Show aired from 1961 to
1981 and became the prototype for all future talk shows that
sought to combine spontaneous conversation on virtually any
subject. In 1972 he made television history by allowing John
Lennon & Yoko Ono to guest host the show for a full week.
The FBI would later use these episodes to try and deport Lennon.
As a recording artist his1966 song "The Men in My Little
Girl's Life" hit #6 on the charts. In his film and television
appearances he usually appeared as himself. He spent over
50 years in show business. Mike once said "In the old
days, I was often confused with Merv Griffin. We were the
same height, the same weight, and we were both Irish tenors."
