The early life in Ireland of the family
of these two brothers is immortalized in the book written by
Frank McCourt titled "Angela's Ashes." The
brothers came to America in the 1950's having separate and joint
careers. The two have been active as performers and support
of theater in New York. Malachy had various careers including
radio before becoming an actor. He did theatre, films and TV
daytime soap operas such as "Ryan's Hope" and "One
Life to Live." He's written numerous books including his
autobiography A Monk Swimming. Frank McCourt had a career teaching
High School and College English. His book "Angela's Ashes"
(1996) was a huge success. It won the Pulitzer Prize and a film
was made based on the book. He followed it with another memoir
called " 'Tis." The two brothers developed and performed
together in a stage show titled "A Couple of Blagards"
based on their life growing up in Ireland and living in New
York.
