As young girls the trio sang at weddings,
funerals and revivals from 1935-1949 singing mostly sacred
and gospel music.
In 1949 they were recruited to perform at military hospitals
and bases where they learned more contemporary material more
appealing to larger audiences. In 1952 they appeared on Arthur
Godfrey's Talent Scouts and with their success they remained
with Godfrey for over seven years. The Coca-Cola Company signed
them on as advertisers with the highest paying advertising
contract up to that time. They had 21 songs reach the Top
40 with 2 of them going to #1: "Sincerely" in 1955
and "Sugartime" in 1958. They retired in 1968 and
later reunited and toured again beginning in 1985. The mere
mention of the McGuire Sisters brings back images of idyllic
1950s America.
