Fibber McGee & Molly

1935-1959

Radio Show

This shows stars were a real life husband and wife team of Jim and Marian Jordan from Peoria, Illinois. They began in vaudeville.
Fibber McGee & MollyFibber was just that… a braggard with wild ideas and schemes that was the basis for the show. Molly played the patient spouse. Besides the couples antics they had many guests come into their home at 79 Wistful Vista where the show took place. Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, Mayor LaTrivia and Doc Gamble were just a few of the regulars. The announcer, Harlow Wilcox, worked the sponsor of the show, Johnson Wax, right into the program so no break was needed for commercials. One of the best known running gags of the era was Fibber McGee's closet. Whenever he opened it all sorts of objects would fall out and make a racket of sound. Besides using Irish names for the title Marian Jordan was of Irish descent (Driscoll), and the show was created by Don Quinn.
