Conan O'Brien was born into a large Irish-Catholic family
in Massachussetts. From an early age he would imitate neighborhood
characters during family dinners. At Harvard he was editor
of the colleges humor magazine The Harvard Lampoon.
After graduating from Harvard in 1985 Conan made his way to
Los Angeles to write for HBO's Not Necessarily the News program.
From 1988-1991 he was a writer on Saturday Night Live and
with other writers they won an Emmy in 1991. After leaving
SNL he wrote scripts for the popular television show The Simpsons.
In 1993 NBC brought him back with the job of finding a new
host for Late Night which had just been vacated by David Letterman.
Conan decided he was best for the job himself. After a pretty
rough start the show eventually found an audience. With his
success he is now scheduled to be the heir to America's top-rated
late night show, The Tonight Show, in 2009 when Jay Leno retires.
