Rosie began her career doing stand up comedy
around the East Coast. She
landed a spot on the sitcom Gimme a Break before hosting VH1's
Stand-up Spotlight series in the late 1980s. In the early
1990s she appeared in some major films such as Sleepless
in Seattle and A League of Their Own. She received
good reviews and in 1996 she began her successful television
show, The Rosie O'Donnell Show. Over six years she
won five Emmy's. The show also raised millions of dollars
for charities. In 2002 she quit her show and made the announcement
that she was gay. She and her partner have four children and
Rosie is doing stand-up again. Today she is a major advocate
for gay-rights and for childrens charities.
