Sean Penn
b. 1960
Film
Sean Penn may have begun his career as one
of Hollywoods bad boys, but has emerged as one of the best
actors of his generation. His mother is Irish American actress
Eileen Ryan and Sean has involved himself with Irish interests.
His
schooling was with performers of the Brat Pack era and early
films included Taps (1981) and Fast Times at
Ridgemont High (1982). He married music superstar Madonna
in 1985 but the marriage only lasted four years. He married
Robin Wright in 1996 and they have two children. Sean has
been known to be an outspoken renegade with opinions on Hollywood
and Washington. It's his work in diverse roles of acting and
directing of films, that has gained him respect. He's made
over forty films and was nominated as best actor Academy Award
for Dead Man Walking (1995), Sweet and Low (1999)
and I Am Sam (2001) before winning in 2003 for Mystic
River (playing an Irish American as he did in State
of Grace in 1990).
