Eddie Rabbitt

1941-1998

Recording Artist

Both of Eddie's parents were born in Ireland and his father, Thomas Rabbitt, was an Irish fiddler and accordion player. During a scouting event Eddie heard country music for the first time and it became his passion. As a singer-songwriter he found it difficult to get gigs in New York so he moved to Nashville in 1968. He found success as a songwriter when Elvis Presley recorded "Kentucky Rain" which went to #16 on the charts. In the mid-1970s he began touring on his own and from 1979-1982 he had eight songs reach the Top 40 and four of them into the Top 10. "I Love a Rainy Night" reached the #1 spot in December 1980. Other hits included "Drivin' My Life Away," "Step by Step," and "You and I," which he recorded with Crystal Gayle. He also wrote the title song for Clint Eastwood's movie "Every Which Way But Loose."
